"We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light."
Training for a big swim? Need to get back into shape? Feeling guilty from too many holiday treats? Up for some friendly competition?
Join in the fun! On January 1st JANUARY JAM participants from all over the world will track their yardage for the entire month to see who can "jam" the most yards into 31 days.
The St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation's January Jam: MS Plunge for Parcells was created to promote fitness through swimming while raising money for the Dave Parcells MS Fund. In 2007, Dave Parcells passed away suddenly at the age of 49 while doing what he loved: swimming the Tampa Bay Marathon. Dave was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and had a dream to set up a fund to support MS patients and their families with expenses not covered by insurance as they undergo treatment for MS. This event will help realize his goal and at the same time present a challenge Dave would have enjoyed --to jam as much yardage as possible into one month.
The 2009 January Jam was exciting to watch as Laura Colette set a new high water mark with 508,858 yards. Over 22 of the 58 participants successfully swam marathon swim in 2009. The Jam brought many swimmers back to the pool and helped others buckle down into a training regimen. Many participants dedicated their efforts to friends and family fighting and living with MS. We look forward to having you all back.
So get ready!
Dynoswim has generously donated their expertise and website to host the 2010 January Jam event. Dynoswim is a top swim workout and resource site for swimmers. Whether you're a coach, a lifelong recreational swimmer, an age-grouper, triathlete, Masters or marathon swimmer, Dynoswim will have the workouts to suit your goals and abilities, enabling you to track your distance, and even share your workouts with other swimmers.
Dynoswim has added a new workout category for marathon swimmers to save and share workouts. Experienced Channel swimmers around the world like Marcy MacDonald will be adding and sharing workouts specifically for the JANUARY JAM and marathon preparation.
The entry fee is $25 (US$). All collected entrance and sponsorship fees will benefit the Dave Parcells MS Fund, which supports MS patients and families with expenses and therapy programs not covered by insurance.

"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers."
~M. Scott Peck

The All-Florida Senior games were held in Fort Meyers, Florida on December 5 and 6. Two swimmers from Dynoswim competed in 6 events and medaled in all six, despite sitting in the bleachers for 4 hours in the cold rain!
Placing first in the 50-55 age group in the 500 yard freestyle was Kate Sussman in 7:14. She took 30 seconds off her qualifying time that she made in Gainesville in September. She then placed second in 100 breaststroke and 3rd in the 50 breaststroke.
Glenn Partelow placed first in his events of the 500 yard free in 6:09, 9 seconds faster than his qualifying time in Gainesville. His 200 free was first with 2:17 and his 100 yard fly set a new age group record in 1:11.
Both swimmers have been practicing in the dark and cooler air here in Palm Coast at the Frieda Zamba pool. The Dynoswim team is preparing for an appearance at the Masters' National competition in May in Atlanta. Several team members have already qualified in multiple events. This January some team members intend to participate in the January Jam and complete the 1-hur postal event.
