Halloween Practice

We had light turnout at practice today, but nevertheless had a great workout. For those of you interested, we worked on some breaststroke.

Halloween Practice

Halloween was a real bust for me. Typically I keep a low profile at home and hope no one shows up at my door with the old "Trick or treat, smell my feet" routine. But this year was different. I actually went out and bought the real nice large size Hershey bars to give out. I was thinking the little monsters would get a big kick out of them. Anyway, I didn't live in this neighborhood last year so I got wind that I'd probably only get 10-15 trick or treaters this year.

Well, just to be safe I bought 30 of those nice size chocolate bars. So I'm waiting around for an hour or so before swim practice expecting the door bell to ring from the kids fresh home from school. Sure enough, no one comes. I then leave for practice and hear from my fellow swimmers that many of the kids here in Florida don't go out trick or treating until about 7pm or so with their parents.

I arrive back in my neighborhood around 7:45 and see tons of kids riding in the back of pick-ups, in mini-vans, and walking around, parents in tow. I rush home, turn on all the lights and wait by the door. Door bell doesn't ring once.

At one point I'm watching the cars go by, and I actually see a few of them slow down, only to speed up again and drive on by. That's weird, I thought. Then I see some kids across the street, getting their goodies. Hmm, they are out still. In fact, I'm looking through my door, and my neighbors are looking through their window back at me. That's weird too.

Well, it's after 9pm and not one monster, witch, or goblin came by. And now I have 29 chocolate bars without an owner. Halloween was a bust for me this year. Now I know what it's like to be the grown up Charlie Brown.

That is such a sad story.
